The Warring States period is the forming stage and evolution period of the prime minister system. At present, Medieval sources with reference to the prime minister system lost in Literature handed down such as Intrigues of the Warring States,Shih chi and Zhuzi。In Archaeology documentation, there are also some records about the prime minister system of The Warring States Period. Because of the limitation of the documentation files, many problems cannot be researched in depth; and the clue of the development of the prime minister system in Warring States period cannot be revealed clearly. But in fact, it's feasible to make researches on the basis of the interaction between the establishment of the position of the prime minister and the political situations in the Warring States period.On the basis of literature and archeology materials, the historical characteristics of the establishment of the position of prime minister in the Warring State Period is researched from horizontal and vertical aspects.In the introduction chapter the significance and the current reached achievements of the relative researches are discussed, and the definition of the prime minister is analyzed and stated.The first part briefly illustrates the fundamental characteristic of the prime minister in the Warring State period based on the existed researches, and together with the arrangements of the literature and archaeology materials, the visual blanks about the installments of the prime minister in each country are illustrated, in order to show the historical facts about that. The second part makes a comparison among the installments of the prime minister in each country to stress the regional characteristics on this topic. This part specifically refers to three areas:Chin, Han-Zhao-Wei, Chu, with the analysis of historical materials. In part three, this paper deals with the followings:the competition between the new and old traditions have an effect on the prime minister system of all the countries in Warring State Period; the impressive diplomatic feature with the prime minister is also the requirements for the interaction of those countries; the relations between the prime minister and king, even between the prime ministers themselves are displayed on the political situation at that time. So this part explores the characteristics of the position in that era from its transitional feature, diplomatic feature, uncertainty of the function division.
