The protagonist Mr. Biswas plays a multiple ethical identity and it brings about many problems to make him fall into a predicament. The conflicts between dream and reality, self and society as well as the historical and political situation have provoked Biswas's self-transformation that result in ethical trespass and lead him faces some "ethical conflicts". Mr. Biswas tried to obtain a house of his own, which is the solid basis of his existence. The relationship between Biswas and the house is an ethical, the house seems an "ethical knot" to Biswas. The pursuit of his own house is actually a way to untie his "ethical conflicts". He ran away constantly from home, built up his house several times and pursued his career are all just in the process of untying the "ethical knot". However, this thesis is mainly using Ethical Literary Criticism to analyse through the method of close reading in order to do a penetrating analysis of the text. It attempts to give a clear explanation and expound on the ethical symbol as well as the significance of Mr. Biswas.
