Analogy is an important means of language, and also an important part in rhetoric. This paper uses the theory of contrastive linguistics to make the diachronic and synchronic comparison of the metaphor of Chinese and Indonesian, and investigate the social and cultural causes behind the background of the language. This paper has firstly done the comparison of animal metaphors, and reviewed the theoretical development and current situation of both languages. This paper takes the metaphors of humans and animals as the object of study, find out the factors that caused the particular humans and animals chosen as the metaphorical objects. Finally, this paper discusses how to translate the metaphorical objects between these two languages. Based on the analysis of Chinese and Indonesian Idioms, analogy was found to be an important way of expression in both Chinese and Indonesian. Chinese idioms and proverbs use analogy abundantly, more than Indonesian idioms. Through case studies found that, there are some similarities and differences in metaphor of both languages, this is due to the aesthetic sense, the traditional cultural values, cultural background and historical religion, spontaneous and geographical environment. For different types of metaphor, different translation methods can be used, to ensure that the translation is reasonable and beautiful. When the comparison of Chinese and Indonesian analogy is used in teaching, it will help the both language learners to make metaphorical sentences in accordance with the type and structure of analogy, increase the appreciation of metaphors used in literature, and use analogy consciously and accurately in conversation and essay writing.
