Susan Sontag is a very creative and influential critic and writer in contemporary America. Since she entered the literary circle in the 1960's, Susan Sontag's aesthetic thoughts had been in the process of change, development and improvement constantly."Against Interpretation and Other Essays" is Susan Sontag's first collected works about criticism. Susan Sontag expressed her thoughts that building formal aesthetic to perceive art in the new context by the collected works. Several kinds of theories such as against interpretation, style, new sensibility which she proposed in the four articles of the colleted works that are "Against Interpretation" "On Style" "Notes on'Camp'" "One culture and the new sensibility " embodied Susan Sontag's aesthetic thoughts most concentratively and fully. What's more, the collected works "Against Interpretation and Other Essays" itself is product of Susan Sontag's practice of criticism by the thoughts of formal aesthetic. It is reflected in her objects of comment, strategy of criticism and style of writing faithfully. At the same time, Susan Sontag's first novel "The Benefactor" is also a model of early aesthetic thoughts, embodying the formal aesthetic thoughts consciously.When the post-modernism of western brewed, people's sense of acumen in their emotional experience was losing gradually in the 1960's. Even though the formal theories that Susan Sontag proposed in a radical posture had period of sffectiveness at that time no doubt, there were some extreme places. However, her formal aesthetic thoughts have important enlightenment on improving the structure of current literary criticism in China.
