There are many expressions in Chinese in the form of"A li AB"such as"hu li hu tu, huang li huang zhang, tu li tu qi"; in the form of"V de C,V bu C"such as"lai de ji, lai bu ji, chi de xiao, chi bu xiao, kan de jian, kan bu jian, gan de shang, gan bu shang"; and the form of"A jiu A"such as"zou jiu zou, chou jiu chou, shi ge jiu shi ge, xiang ba lao jiu xiang ba lao". These expressions attract a few linguists and scholars'attention especially in discussions on Chinese infix. Some of them have an eye for these expressions with infix from the pragmatic, syntactic, semantic, and rhetorical perspective, while others only keep a watchful eye on whether it is an infix or not. Up to now, there have been scarcely researches on infix from the perspective of construction. This research attempts to talk about the infixed expressions as constructions to explore the related grammaticalization and pragmatic effects, with three dissimilar cases at different levels of language:"A li AB","V de C, V bu C"and"A jiu A", assisted by an English case study"-et- in'phonetics'". This thesis consists of the following five chapters:Chapter One serves as a general introduction to this research, including the motivation and objective, methodology and significance, and layout as well.Chapter Two firstly reviews the previous studies on English infix and Chinese infix at home and abroad; and then efforts primarily go to the presentation of Infix Construction from the angle of constructional grammar to fill the gaps found in the previous researches.Chapter Three contributes to the construe of Infix Construction from the points of grammaticalization and pragmatic principles.Chapter Four concentrates on the three data-based cases studies in Chinese:"A li AB","V de C, V bu C", and"A jiu A", with an English case"-et- in'phonetics'"to assist.Chapter Five arrives at the conclusion of this research with two parts: the major findings of this study and the limitations of this research and suggestions for further research.
