The Human Stain is the conclusion to Roth's American Trilogy. It proves to be well-received both in America and internationally. The characters in the novel are strikingly lifelike and they have counterparts in reality. However, they reached at destines in contrary to ones in reality. In the light of the political unconscious this thesis attempts to analyze Roth's unconscious patriarchal moral bias by contrasting the different destines between the real and the imagined. The thesis briefly introduces some historical facts such as Jim Crow Laws, Political Correctness, Blacks passing as white, Vietnam War and Lewinsky Scandal. Then the thesis makes a contrast between the facts and the fantasies to reveal Roth's patriarchal biases in racism, war and females.
