Objective:To investigate the psychological state of pupils with overweight or obesity in the urban area of Chongqing, and then to provide information for developing practical obesity prevention and intervention strategies among primary school students.Methods:Multi-stage randomly clustering method was used. 1379 primary students in grade 3~6 from six schools in the urban area of chongqing participated in this study. The students'weights and heights were measured by the same pattern instruments and the relatively fixed investigators。The questionnaires rearranged by ourselves were self-administrated by students in the classroom.Results:1. For Self-consciousness questionnaire and its six different factors, there is no significantly statistical difference in the scores either between the primary students with normal weight group and the overweight or the obesity group, as well as in the scores of suicide ideation questionnaire. There is statistical difference in the distribution of different choice of the following four questions: frequency of sadness, satisfaction of one's appearance, cause of fault, accept of oneself, Comparing to the pupils with normal weight. For the option"I usually fell sad", there are 13.07%, 4.31%, 10.53% pupils choosing it with obesity, overweight or normal weight respectively choosing it. For the option"there is something not so satisfactory in my appearance", there are 58.93%, 46.15%, 41.09% pupils with obesity, overweight or normal weight respectively choosing it. For the option"it's my fault of many misdoings", there are 32.14%, 14.53%, 19.02%pupils with obesity, overweight or normal weight respectively choosing it. For the option"I like myself", there are 67.86%, 85.47%, 84.15% pupils with obesity, overweight or normal weight respectively choosing it. While there are no statistical difference in other questions, such the loneliness, avoidance of communication with others, sleep disorders between the pupils with normal weight and overweight or obesity .However, the percent of answers of low grade they selected was higher than the normal-weight ones.Conclusion:Many factors have influence on the development of Self-consciousness of children. This study shows no difference in the Self-consciousness among primary students with overweight, obesity or normal weight, as well as suicide ideation at present. However, the pupils with overweight or obesity are more likely to suffer from certain psychological-behavioral problems, such as loneliness, non-satisfaction with themselves and their appearance, sleep disorders, et al. we should pay attention to the children's psychological problems, and adapt effective methods and measures in the future, helping the development of the children's mental health.
