Art creation based on the material. Material itself has its own physical characteristics, including quality feeling, texture, color and the other. In the process of visual modeling, the material not only enhancing people's subjective feelings in visual and sense, forming a picture a content rich, but also getting its own independent status in Expression languages, just as the Modeling language and the colorful language with its material property characteristics.The art has two important subjects in the contemporary developing, updating the art concept and increasing the Expression language. In the sector of oil painting and Chinese Painting, lots of experiments in Expression language has been spreading up and getting fruitful outcomes. Compared with these language Expression experiments in oil painting and Chinese Painting, the traditional watercolor really has a long period to pursue. Because of the tools and materials using in traditional watercolor, it appears lots of in-depth express works. Including transparent, hydra and bright, as a result of using Watercolor paper and watercolor pen, the traditional Impression of the watercolor's features also confines its Aesthetic values and performance space. Lots of works looks no difference, and becoming to one convenient and technical performance tool...all of these problems questioned the subject status of watercolor.Through the changes of tools and materials, it is not only can promote the Painters across the watercolor barriers of a technical tool, got a different visual language that distanced from the traditional ones, but also enrich the diversity of Expression languages, create the expanding possibility of spirit in contemporary watercolor. Based of the above reasons, the paper expands the dissertation. The paper mainly has four sections:The first part of the paper is the preface, which mainly illustrate the research background, the research foundation, the research purpose and the research significance of the paper. The second part of the paper presents the tools and materials that used in traditional and contemporary watercolor and analysis theirs material properties and performance characteristics. The third part of the paper is the language performance of traditional and contemporary watercolors, including the different methods and techniques. The fourth part of the paper is the Analysis and comparison of material's language features in traditional and contemporary watercolors. Aiming to get a recognizing of theirs different language features.
