| The form of Time and Space is quite common in science fiction. This thesis focuses on the concept of Time and Space in scientific fictions, and the analysis is carried forward mainly through the clarification of different archetypes in those writings. In addition, the exploration is furthered to include the potential problems concerning the special literature form and the possible solutions for it.Concerning the structure of the present paper, the thesis is divided into three parts: chapter one chiefly devotes to the discussion of the concept of Time, and such a form is described by the deliberate confusion of the time among the past, the present and the future, thus the cultural significance and aesthetic value is realized through the transformation of linear time. Chapter two focuses on the form of Space in fictions of science, and the discussion extends to the two models about the location in such writings, namely, the location on the Earth and the location in the outer space, and how the special effect of estrangement and shock is achieved by the description of dislocation and transformation of environment. Chapter three is confined to the exploration of the potential ways to intensify the unique effect from the aesthetic and social perspective, and accordingly the possible solutions are suggested. It is the writer's dear hope that this thesis would help to give some light to the further study of the literary genre of scientific fiction. |
