As "a very influential intellectual, a person who has the unique perspective of the novel theorists", Iris Murdoch (1919-1999) gained a wide reputation at home and abroad, known as "the most intelligent woman in Britain." In the nearly four decades of writing career, Murdoch made a twenty-six creative novel. The sea, the sea won the 1978 Booker Prize.Foreign scholars have made many important achievements on Murdoch's research, not only have a considerable number of academic papers and monographs published, and established the Research Institute concerning Murdoch, Murdoch Research Fund, held a number of international academic conference regarding Murdoch and so on. In China, since 1985, Professor Wang Jiaxiang translated The sand castle, five Murdoch's novels translated in Chinese published up to now. The number of papers that selected Murdoch as study subject is nearly one hundred and the academic research monograph is continuously emerging.The paper is mainly from the Murdoch's thoughts of existentialism in her novels and discusses the characters, the outside world, the world's caves, the self and others in her novels in order to reflect the conflicts between the good and the evil, then make a discussion on "self "and the conception of perfection that how individual be alienated from self-imagination, turn attention to others and live in harmony with others in order to reach the state of freedom and perfection.This paper is divided into three parts:Chapter I:Based on the cave metaphor of Plato's "cave metaphor ", the paper analyses the closed space in Murdoch's novels and based on the spatial theories of Foucault and other researchers, the paper probes into those imprisoned for his self and shelter, He resist and escape the self, self-construction of subjectivity, and aphasia.Chapter II:Plato "cave metaphor " metaphor in the sun, based on the Murdoch novel analysis of the external world, to explore the cave and closed it the relationship between the world, but from the perspective of outsiders to intervene, of outsiders on the impact of the cave and its inhabitants the world, influence, thinking alien force on "solipsism", the impact of self-centered.Chapterâ…¢:The paper discusses the possibility that the Individuals come from the self to others and achieve perfection based on the discussion of above two chapters.
