Toni Morrison is one of the most prominent African American writers. She was awarded the Noble Prize for literature in 1993 and another several awards such as the National Book Critic Circle Award, the Pulitzer Prize and so force. In Morrison's twilight years she is breaking through her own restriction all the time, because she has stretched her hands into the inside of her own race and the black females, and Love, her latest novel, is an example. This thesis explores how female characters in this novel get rid of the impact of the patriarchal character—Bill Cosey and establish subjective consciousness. Through the research on narrative voices in Love, this thesis comes to the conclusion that the female characters in this novel form a"communal voice"in the end and establish self-consciousness. According to the sequence of realizing this aim, the body of this paper is divided into three parts. Chapter One"Reflection on History"reveals Bill Cosey's evil essence and shows the devastating impact which Civil Rights movement had upon black females. Chapter Two"Different Voices of the Female Characters"makes analysis of the female characters in the novel to show their different voices. Chapter Three"Communal Voice of the Female Characters"studies how the women form a communal voice and gain subjective consciousness.
