Code-switching In The Mivie Go Gala Go!

As globalization further develops and China further reforms and opens up, there is increasing international communication in various fields for political, economic, cultural activities. The frequent language contact has led more and more people to become bilingual or multilingual. Code-switching refers to the fact that language users use two or more language or language varieties in the same discourse. As the result of language contact, scholars have focused on the study of code-switching for a long time since the 1960s. A large number of scholars study code-switching from diverse perspectives.The present paper focuses on the functions of code-switching in the movie Go Lala Go! with reference to Verschueren's Linguistic Adaptation Theory. In terms of language use, which is a process of adaptation, human beings make"negotiable linguistic choices from a variable range of possibilities in such a way as to approach points of satisfaction for communicative needs"(Verschueren). The paper, therefore, analyzes how Adaptation works through communication in the movie Go Lala Go! . The main ideas in this paper can be expounded by the following parts: (1) reviewing achievements for code-switching through literature review; (2) introducing Verschueren's Linguistic Adaptation Theory; (3) adopting the Linguistic Adaptation Theory to analyze code-switching in foreign-invested enterprises with collected examples. The analysis aims to (1) prove that code-switching is the realization of adaption and a series of dynamic processes of choice making; (2) explore features and functions and of code-switching in foreign-invested enterprises with reference to Verschueren's Linguistic Adaption Theory. The analysis points to the significance of code-switching in foreign-invested enterprises as the result of language choice, means of communicative strategies and a way of showing one's social status.Further investigation needs to be conducted into code-switching to characterize its nature and explore its cognitive process. The author intends to combine theory with practice in daily work through this thesis, and hopes to discover something new based on the results of previous researches, and it will prove useful for increasing people's awareness of the importance of code-switching in foreign-invested enterprises.
