After entering China, Internet has developed very fast in our fast in our country since 1994. It inaugurates a completely new communicative manner, meanwhile, affects human s language profoundly. Netspeak is a new modality for existence of language. As a new field in linguistic study, it can enrich the cognition of language panorama further. Netspeak generally refers to all the language which is applied or touched in the Internet. It can be divided into three kinds. The first kind is technical terms related to Internet, e.g. software, virus, browser, etc. The second category is about the Internet culture, e.g. hacker, the fourth media, virtual space. The last is the language used in the CMC (Computer-Mediated Communication), such as dive, navy, ? etc. The most significant variation is the third kind of Netspeak. This thesis mainly probes into the third kind of Netspeak, and it belongs to a qualitative study based on the corpus selected from some large scaled chatting rooms. Meanwhile, by means of the data from the latest Statistical Reports on China's Internet Development provided by CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center), the virtual speech communities have formed in China based on the Netspeak. In this dissertation, the theoretical framework mainly consists of dynamic context theory, aiming to prove the fact that the change of any factor in contextual variables in language communication would necessarily cause variation of the language, which means that the change of communicative context is one of the main causes of Netspeak variation, while this kind of variation is embodied in every aspect of Netspeak system. Thus it is proved that Netspeak is a new kind of language varieties, and the true value of language variation is: to choose suitable linguistic form according to different contexts so as to express the speaker s real intention, which can help to achieve the aim of effective communication.
