The artistic conception of Zen aims to let a person leisurely relish the seemingly ususal but unusual life clips which will be slipping away with the peaceful heart, in the quiet state of mind, feeling happiness and the mental relaxation. In the edification of Zen, Wang Wei, taking natural and pastoral scenes as the esthetic object, indulged himself in nature with a constant pursuit of the spiritual freedom so as to achieve the maximum life realm. His pastoral scenic and pastoral poetry broke the durance between the aesthetic subject and the reality object to integrate them absolutely. Therefore, natural scenic and pastoral was endowed with the supernatural properties and enduring life power, and his pastoral scenic and pastoral became a unique aesthetic connotation. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first chapter primarily analyzes the present research situation and background mainly through the relationship between poetry and Zen. The second chapter basically elaborates Wang Wei's life introduction and the origin of Zen Buddhism. It will analyse the source of the poet's Zen Buddhism thoughts from personal experiences, family background and the influences of that age and define the relationship between poetry and Zen, which will pave a theoretical road for the analysis of Zen Buddhism characteristics embedded in Wang Wen's scenic and pastoral idyllics. The third chapter chiefly analyses the Zen characteristics in Wang's poems which is mainly featured by the following four distinctive aspects: artistic conception, imago, poetic-drawing law, and poetic scenic and pastoral. The fourth chapter tries to tap the aesthetic connotation in his poems, which is the aesthetic pursuit beyond the mundane, the aesthetic induction with heart and objects together, and independent and pleasurable aesthetic significance.
