The culture of appreciating stones in ancient China reached its peak in Song Dynasty and Qing Dynasty respectively and gradually declined to the bottom in Yuan Dynasty. In Ming Dynasty, with the end of the ruling of the different races and the enforcement of the feudal ruling of the Han nationality, due to the rudiments of capitalism, the prosperity of the feudal economy and the booming of the culture of Han intellectuals, the culture of appreciating stones restored gradually. Ming Dynasty served as a link between the past and the future in the history of the culture of appreciating stones.Taking ugly stones in the art in Ming Dynasty as the subject. The thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter One displays the reasons for the appearance ugly stones in various artistic fields in Ming Dynasty.Chapter Two describes the embodiment of ugly stones in paintings, gardens and bonsais in the art in Ming Dynasty.Chapter Three analyzes the aesthetic implications of the appreciation of"ugly stones"in the culture of appreciating stones in Ming Dynasty and explores its causes.At last explores the origin of the appreciation of"ugly stones"in the culture of appreciating stones from the perspectives of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.
