On Communication And Development Of Human Beings

Human development is not only a major problem of Marxist theory, but also a significant and practical problem our country faces at this stage. Marx's communication theory tells us that communication, as a way of human existence as well as an important part of human practice, is the same with human development. Therefore, the study of human development should be linked with the communication and make a careful analysis of the intrinsic link between the two for opening up new horizons on the issue of human development.Scholars abroad and at home have different views on the Research on communication issues. Communication in Marx's theory mainly involves the areas of communication and their relationship and the basic idea of communication. Communication is the basic Category for Marx and Engels to construct historical materialism. On the one hand it refers to the exchanges between people; on the other hand it is the interaction between people relations. Phenomenon of Communication also attracted attention of Western scholars. They think that communication itself is way of human existence and life. Habermas, the most representative figure of Western, put forward"communicative action"which is obviously different from Marx's"engagement"in the concept. He believes that language is the root of all social behavior. He regards language as decisive factors to rationalize"communicative action"and based on this theory, he attempts to reconstruct historical materialism which is an idealist view. However, it has some inspiration for us to establish a"dialogue"and"communication"to resolve the conflict.The research on Communication in national academic field can be traced back to the late 80s and the early 90s of last century. At that time, it mainly studies the status of communication in the scope of historical materialism and the roles communication plays in social development. With the in-depth study of Marx's communication and the interaction itself in academic field, the statement of human development from the perspective of interaction discussed more and more. Achievements in academic field are mainly in human development from the perspective of relationship between historical evolution of interaction and comprehensive development of human development, which is the study, based on the existing framework Marx's theory of comprehensive human development. There is no systematical study to expound the relation between communication and human development.Communication problems through research, it can be seen that impact of communication to human development is twofold through the study of communication. It has both positive and negative implications. The positive aspects are: Communication is the way of human existence as well as creating the conditions for human development. The changing nature of communication makes human development into freedom by the lack of freedom while the changing scope of communication makes human development from one-sided towards full. It is communication that offers effective ways for human development and promotes the cultural heritage of mankind. However, at present communication also have negative effects on human development. For example, in conditions of market economy, communication make individuals more subjected to ruling of material. Also, it makes the main body of people living and social life, individuality and university in opposition. During the process of association, the existence of old system, long-term accumulated culture, values, tradition, and customs, communication have impact on human development. In short, human development and communication are closely related. The relationship between them is two-way interaction. Communication has a motivational impact on human development while human development, in turn, can promote the development of communication. In social practice, we should give full play to the positive role of communication to human development, and overcome the negative impact.China is currently in the transition from traditional agricultural society to a modern industrial and post-industrial society, from the traditional planned economy to a modern market economy. This transformation changes the communication between people and the way as well which is characterized with relying on material, contract-based communication, emphasis on interests and communicating open. This great change on the way of communication plays a positive role in human development. Firstly, one's independence, autonomy, creativity have been enhanced; secondly, one's freedom and sense of equality has been strengthened; thirdly, social relationships among people is increasingly rich and one's ability has been continuously improved; fourth, it enriches the growing needs of people and increase production capacity gradually; fifth, one's personality is given full play and subjective consciousness is improved. Of course, changes in the way of communication also have a negative side on human development: alienation of subject; crisis in human morality and psychology; crisis in one's identity and the increasing gap among the opportunities of human development.In order to overcome the negative impact that the way of communication changes human development, and to promote human development comprehensively and freely, we should adhere to the communication theory of Marxism as a guide to establish a universal communication for the condition of promoting the free and comprehensive development, to coordinate communication for a possibility of promoting the comprehensive human development; to improve communication skills for a motivation of promoting the comprehensive human development; to specify communication action for a guarantee of promoting the comprehensive human development; to reinforce communication foundation for a prerequisite of promoting the comprehensive human development. Only these measures are actively and vigorously implemented, can it be possible for promoting the comprehensive human development.
