Listening Comprehension Instructing To Non-English Majors——Theory And Experiment

Of all language skills, listening comprehension is the most important one. Yet it is also the most difficult one for foreign language learners, especially for those non- English majors, to acquire. Therefore, how to make those learners successful listeners has become a significant subject in the field of language study. In fact, many linguists and scholars all over the world, such as Anderson,A. and Lynch,T., Clark,H.H. and Clark,E. .U., Taylor,L.and Taylor,M.M., etc, have made their efforts and achieved great achievements in this field. This thesis has discussed the nature of listening comprehension as well as the significance of this thesis itself; It has also presented some famous scholars?theories, views and approaches on the process of listening comprehension, the factors affecting listening comprehension and the strategies dealing with listening comprehension. Then on the basis of analyzing the subject students?actual situation (through investigation), the author has tried to apply those theories, views and approaches to his experiment on English listening instructing to non-English majors, so as to improve the English listening proficiency of the non-English majors and prove those theories, views and approaches. The result is satisfactory梩he subjects?great proficiency in listening comprehension has been attained through one year抯 hard work, which proves that those theories, views and approaches are effective and practical. At the end of this thesis, the author gives a further discussion on certain issues which remain untouched or unsolved, aiming at giving some enlightenment to English teachers and non-English majors.
