American-Soviet detente in Seventies is a special period during the Cold War years. It not only brought about detente between the East and the West, but also gave the International some peace. My purpose is to offer an integrated, strategic approach for the analysis of the essence of detente and the reason why the detente happen and fail. This approach includes the condition of detente, the course and the failure of detente. I try to analyze those from two aspects: the United States and the Soviet Union. By means of those, expose that the detente in Seventies is a new strategy of struggling for hegemony that the United States and the Soviet Union adopted in a new situation. So it is a continuation of the Cold War, and the struggle was established under an equilibrium system. This essence determined me appearance and the disappearance of detente. When the power between the United States and the Soviet Union tended to become equilibrium, they chose detente. But once the equilibrium was broke, the detente lost basis. Then American-Soviet relations went back to the state of antagonist.Xiaoyun Ji Directed by Hai yao...
