English/Chinese Culturally-loaded Words And Expressions:Analysis Of Differences In Meanings & Study On Their Translation

Culturally-loaded words and expressions, most sensitively and directly, reflect the unique features of a certain nation. This paper attempts to analyze the differences in meanings of English/Chinese culturally-loaded words and expressions and explore the translation of culturally-loaded words and expressions. Based on the study of features of culture and the relationship between language and culture, the writer of this paper puts forward the meaning of 揅ultural-translation?in translating practice. Owing to cultural differences, there are differences in meanings of culturally-loaded words and expressions (differences in linguistic meanings, differences in designative meanings and differences in pragmatic-associative meanings). By analyzing three types of these differences, the writer puts forward the general principle in translating culturally-loaded words and expressions, that is, 搕o seek common grounds while reserving differences.?Alienation and adaptation are regarded as two main translation approaches, which have long been a heated topic for debate.
