People and ChiLi hasbecome as popular and influentiaI as her books. The reason for her success isthat she herself is one of the common citizens. She looks through their eyes, judges on their ground and writes according to their taste. In her work, ChiLipresents the common lives of the world through which the ordinary people'svalues are imbodied. Because of this, ChiLi has won herself a large numberof readers. This paPer contains three parts. The first ped elaborates the narrative position of ChiLi's noveIisticcreation. She declares herselfto be an "Urban Petty Bourgeois", and thereforeshe must show their lives in their position. She directly puts herself in theshoes of the common citizens and makes them have their own voice heard, instead of surpassing them. She is unwilling to view life in the light whichthe precedent have given, but tries to exPress the omnipresent life at her sidewith a neu' sight, so as to make her works more simple. The second part exPounds the tWo general characters ChiLi portrays inher novels f One is the unyieIding mass, the other is the intellectuaIs who Iosetheir -central position, ChiLi praises the citizens who live and developtenaciously. There is tremendous potential installed in them. Facing thetrouble life which is beset with difficulties. They don't compromise, theydon't indulge in bosy, but to do their best, to imProve the stams quo steP bysteP. Hence reach the perfect state at last. Compared with the citizens wholive with ease, the intellectUals are a grouP which is lagging far behind.IIIUnder the lashing of economic tide, the inequality of spirit and material leads to the intellectuals?embarrassed lives. They are pedantry and hypocritical, yet they pretend to be above politics and worldly considerations, but still ,they finally merge with the common citizens quietly. The third part states the value point in Chi Li 憇 novel creation. She doesn抰 pursue the ideal on the spiritual level, but agree to the worldly concept on the realistic level, which is shown specifically on her attitude towards love and living. As to love she cried clearly:?No talking about love!?She denies the possibility of love. In the ordinary marriage life, varieties of utility factors substitute for love. So it抯 only the Utopia outside the world that love lies in. She declares seriously:?One of the topic of my literary creation is exposing unreal love.?After analyzing the ideal love, she agrees to the worldly marriage concept?搇ive every day? In her view, the stable relation between the couples plays a major role and thus the smooth marriage without quarrel or depart is enough. As to living, she advocates that those who have competence and courage to live on in this arduous world are the stronger. Ideal life, happy affection and elegant interest are all based on the existence. She approves the reasonability and positivity of man抯 desires as well as man抯 pursue for them. She expresses her heartfelt understanding and respect for the heroes, who had to live on in their way indefatigably. Faced with the troubling life and the environment which gives rise to worries, they don抰 challenge and fight against the reality, or live out of the reality. On the contrary, they get to know the life and have the present situation improved step by step, which shows the meaning of life in reality.
