The research topics of this thesis focus on the Chinese slogans and translating them into English.Altogether, the thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the general introduction of the thesis, including the current situation of Chinese slogan, the purpose and significance of research on it, the necessity and urgency to translate it into English, the rich research achievements on the Chinese slogan and its English translation, and the contents in this thesis.The second part is the overall introduction of Chinese slogan, on its origin, classification, characteristics of unique structures, figures of speech, and the similarities and differences between Chinese and English slogans.In the third part, the author sums up some common errors existing in the process of translating Chinese slogans into English, on language as well as on culture. On language, the errors may be divided into three groups: words are used improperly; the structures do not conform to those in English; the whole version is hard to understand. The errors on culture, more potentially neglected in translation, are more likely to result in misunderstanding and annoyance among foreigners.The fourth part is dealing with translating Chinese slogans into English. Following the significance of translating Chinese slogans, three principles for general guidance are put forward: understandability, receptors centered, and similarity. On the basis of abundant of examples, the author suggests three techniques of translating Chinese slogans into English, namely, literal translation, addition and omission, conversion and restructuring, including how to deal with the words and expressions with Chinese characteristics and figures of speech.The fifth part concludes the thesis.
