| Beihai city, located in the south of Guangxi autonomy, is a beach city with beautiful scene. It is one of the first-authorized seaport cities open to the outside world. Because it is deficient in documents about Behai history and culture, the origin of Beihai dialect has aroused great debate ever since.And there are still much questionable point and dispute in the studies on Behai history and culture, So, applying with some related theory of colloquialism, general linguistics and social linguistics, borrowing some research works form lexis, semantics, computation linguistics and culture linguistics, a deliberate illustration and a systematic analysis has been given in this dissertation.The thesis provides the materials for the studies on dialect^nd expound Behai's history and culture.Besides,there is of signicance in the quantitating analysis today.Chapter 1 is introduction. This chapter includes the survey of Beihai, the significance of this subject, the souce of the material and the structure of this dissertation; chapter 2 gives a general introduction of Beihai's population and the phonology system Beihai dialect belongs to; chapter 3 has a linguistic analysis from the following three aspects: morphology, word-building and origin of the vocabulary; chapter 4 explores the intimate relationship between Beihai dialect and other neighbor dialects according to a quantitative analysis; based on the conclusion of the chapters above, chapter 5 probes into the formation of Beihai dialect and the characteristic of Beihai dialect vocabulary; chapter 6 reveals the status of Beihai's history, geography, custom and immigration to deepen the understanding and application of Beihai dialect vocabulary. Besides, Beihai dialect's prospect is predicted at the end of the dissertation;chapter 7 describes Beihai dialect vocabulary.
