After the Second Opium War, the protestant Christianity spread from Foozhow to Putian, a city between Foozhow and, Amoy, and imposed great influence to Putian. Though many a historian was engaged in the study of Christianity in Fujian, they mainly concentrated on the eastern part of the province. The contribution of the Christian Church of Putian has been ignored completely. Therefore, I would like to do further research on this important virgin soil.The thesis explore the history of the protestant Christianity in Putian before the People's Republic of China, emphatically analyse its efforts and effects in propagation, educational and other social work, independence movement, etc. The paper point out: in the history of Putian Christianity, the native Pastors and Christians helped to penetrate into Putian, and the co-operation between missionaries and native Christians was very important.
