| In the retrospective paradigm, participants don't know in advance that they will later be asked to carry out tasks about time. Studying the retrospective temporal memory has practical importance; because people often experience the retrospective temporal memory, and this kind of memory greatly affect people's behavior and social intercourse. This paper investigated the Characteristic and the Mechanism of the retrospective temporal memory in 2 months. This research played 15 video sections for subjects, and selected contemporary 8 news events. Subjects was asked to recall the presenting or happening time of these video sections and news events in 4 days after the series of video sections had completed, including temporal order, temporal duration and temporal locus. The results were as follows:1. The recalling accuracy of the retrospective temporal order is above chance level. Temporal order memory of video sections obtains higher accuracy than news events. Temporal duration memory of 7min and 15min obtains higher accuracy than SOmin. 7min duration tends to overestimate, and SOmin duration tends to underestimate. Temporal locus memory of video sections obtains higher accuracy than news events.2. The self-involvements of subjects influence the accuracy of temporal order and temporal locus memory. Higher self-involvement materials obtain more accurate temporal order and temporal locus memory; lower self-involvement materials obtain opposite results.3. Retrospective temporal duration memory is influenced by interactions of true duration length and delay days.4. Temporal information is inherent in some events, and temporal information inherence or not can influence temporal locus memory.5. Temporal orders tend to be represented by hierarchical network model, but in limited thinking time, it tends to be represented by linearity model.6. This research restricts the answer time to check intuitional information of temporal memory. It suggested being reasonable.
