This essay focuses on Charllote Bronte's life and the female characters in her four novels. It analyses her personality,mental state and the influence of personality on her writing. The female characters in her works can be classified into three groups:mad woman,major female character and minor female character,which symbolize three aspects of her personality:resister,contradictor and subordinator. The female characters in Charllote's works is woven with her experience that influence the formation of her personality and thought. Charllote was born in a backward village in 19th century when industiy revolution was around the corner. The surroundings,society,culture and her personality leave trace in her writing. She seeks the sense of identity in her writing,that is,self-consciousness aroused by the painful doubts about her own.
