Robert Frost is one of the best-known American poets of 20th century. With great number of poems about the scenes and farmers of the rural New England, he is entitled "New England Poet". This thesis attempts to examine the close relation between Frost and the rural New England. Chapter One deals with Frost's experience as a New England fanner, and displays the great charm of farming life in New England to him and the rich resources and inspiration that the farming life offers him. Chapter Two focuses on the variety of Frost's poems by analyzing the themes of his New England poems: celebrating the natural beauty of New England, glorifying New England farmers' work as well as how the farmers" speech influences Frost's poetic language. Chapter Three illustrates Frost's identity as a defender of the rural New England, and shows his life values: he cherishes he rural New England's traditional value and underrates the modern industrialized civilization. Frost's great number of New England poems come from his deep love for the farming life in New England, as well as the inspiration offered by New England. Frost dose not merely depict the local scenery and characters of New England, what's more important is he expresses his solicitude for modern man's existence and spiritual state in the meanwhile he displays his own attitude towards life and society.
