The extension of power between the provincial governors-general and governors during the times of Taiping Heavenly War influenced greatly both the political structure in the late Qing period and the development of the modern history of China. The dissertation,taking Jiangxi as an example,is aimed at describing objectively the process of the extension of the provincial governors-general and governors during the times of Xianfeng and Tongzhi emperors. The author holds that the history before and after the Taiping Kingdom War showed a real proceed of development of China's traditional society.
