Translation is no longer an intellectual game happening in professors' studies. It is increasingly seen as a tool to attain certain function on a specified group of readers or to put it more precisely, addressees in a context of situation or in an even broader context of culture. This intended function can be the immediate use of a single text or it may refer to some cultural functions i.e. effect aimed to achieve politically, poetologically or in terms of language. The intended function of the target text itself plays a role of shaping the target text-to-be through the selection of translation strategies. From another perspective, to study translations that have already been in existence, the study of specific translation strategies resorted to reveals among all other governing factors the intended function that the translator envisages for his translation. This primarily target-oriented functional concept of translation is expected to shed new light on translation studies in the area of translation criticism or even on translation related cultural studies. It is also expected to contribute insights into real life translation, which is emerging as a profession in the context of globalization and information explosion, as well as translator training programs.
