Chi Li who is a representative writer of market age and mass culture, has become an outstanding wonder in contemporary literature. This article will focus on the civic novels of hers to analyze their common popularization. From 1980's on, her novels mainly described the life of citizens in Wuhan City, an important city in middlesouth of China. She gives a panoroma of citizens' life showing the value of the trend of the mass. At the same time, she adopts some writing skills which is loved by people. Because of the author's accumulation of life experience and her active attitudes towards writing, her works are accepted and popular as well even when literature works have became consumer goods. This article aims to analyze the mass literature in the very three aspects. The article analyzes the mass culture, in the following aspects: the selected material, meaning of expression and the order of describing skills.Firstly, in Chi Li's novels, she gives a detailed description of everyday life and of ordinary people. Nowdays, the life of city people has been greatly different from that of the past. The boundary between the culture and daily life is getting vague, and they penetrate into each other, so the life is full of the consuming desire. The life like description of people's life is fit for the standard of relativeness and kindness. Relationship between people is indifferent and isolated. The heart of people is filled with loneliness and worry although they appear to be free.Secondly: people's mediocre value trend. Love is a perpetual topic in society, which is idled away by mediocre life. Therefore, love lost its real meaning pressed by money and sex. People give up the pursuit of feeling, and they don'tcare about love for they treat love in a utility and worldly way. In society, people lost the leisurely attitude of occupying the time and enjoying the time, which is traditional in the past. People feel depressed and frightened in the front of the great change occurring both in history and time. In public time, people are busy hurrying from one place to another, and the hours are divided into many seconds. In private time, they usually have much pressure. They are upset and nervous in heart without feeling of being successful.Next, in the period of mass culture, culture is also treated as consumer goods, which requires the efficiency. Thus, the favorite writing skills of common people are an important means of attracting reading customers. Chi Li's special features of expression are the following: firstly, telling stories, the psychology of Chinese reader is to read stories but not novel. Wonderful stories provided a novel can hold readers. Knowing the appetite of readers is one of the outstanding features of her novels. Secondly, details to make up the story. Because details have the effect of truth and arouse the interest of readers as contrary to the details serve for ideas. Thirdly, the commonness of daily language. People in the daily life often use the language in a creative way, but they escape the limitation of rules. Consequently, people get the feeling of creation. Chi Li accepts and adopts much ordinary words from daily life. The article analyzes the commonness of mass literature. In the age of mass culture, the products of culture are consumer goods. Compared with the awkward situation of pure culture. Chi Li's success undoubtedly offered some useful enlightment to contemporary literature writing and development.
