The thesis talks about ZhouLibo's novels about the country life in Hunan in order to discus the relation between an author's works and the times especially the author himself. ZhouLibo had three kinds of identities when he wrote the group of novels: a cadre, a sightseer and an intellectual. It made him have three kinds of views: political view, civilian view, intellectual view. First, the author must pay attention to the complicated contradiction and give publicity to the policies of the government to change the villages because of his political view. The civilian view made ZhouLibo enjoy the country life including the farmers' ideal, sensibilities, common lives and folk custom. At the same time, some passages in his novels may be the intellect taste sentiment and logos. Thus, the novels catered to the demands of the times and literature itself. On the other hand, the three kinds of views did not have the same status. The author expected the genes from the political view were the novelsoutlook, and the genes from the civilian and the intellectual views were recessive. In fact, it was not so easy to conciliate the three views. They usually contended each other to retain more room. It was hard for zhouLibo to solve the problem.
