Most researches nowadays on exercise and immunology generally focused on investigating immunological changes after acute and short period of exercise training or physical exercise with subjects of mice or ordinary being. There are, however, fewer reports on the effect of long-term athletic exercise training and competition on immunological system.The changes of physiological function during the period of recovery after training determined to draw up following training program and put it force. The increase of the risk of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) occurs not only during intensive training, but also in the week after competition. Therefore it is essential to make longitudinal tracking studies to investigate the response of long-term exercise training and competition on immune function in elite players.Studies have already indicated that psychological stress not only leads to susceptibility to infectious diseases in which immune system act the part of intermedium, but raise the infection rate as well. Emotional disorder.especially dysthymia.can alter immune function and then the individual susceptibility will be increased. With the advent of neuro-endocrine-immunoregulatory network theory and psychoneuroimmunology, transition from conventional biomedical model to modern social-psychological midical one, modern athletics places importance on psychological factors and the latter one were put into practice gradually. Also, sports immunologists began to realize some mental factors,such as mood states and personal traits et al, takes on a role of exercise immunosuppression.which will be a significant research subject in the future.Elite players are requested by modern athletics to have to push their physiological potential to utmost step by step.They bear strenuous exercise training as well as invisible psychological pressure.Dual stress of physiology and psychology surely bring negative influence on immune function.The number of researches on psychological stress are far short of and less than that of physiological one at present. There is no report until now on assessing physiological fitness in elite athletes connecting psychological paramenters with physiological marks, and on discussing the relationship between physiological data and psychological ones also.This study measured lymphocyte subpopulations which indicate cell-mediated immunological status, serum interleukin-2 and soluble interleukin-2 receptor, which play a key role in cytokine net.serum immunosuppressant which is one of direct evidences of immunosuppression,the profile of mood states which measures mood states.and some other routine indexes in order to investigate changes of immune function and mood states after training period and tournament in elite women' s soccer players, then to discuss possible mechanism on existing of serum immunosuppressant and to look into the response of long-term exercise training and competition on immunological status as well as the longitudinally continuous variation and its regularity.The results show as follows:1. The percentage of CD4+ declined indistinctively during the period of observation and it was significantly lower after tournament than that after training period (P less than 0.05). The percentage of CD8+ after tournament was lower than that before (P less than 0.05) and after (P less than 0.05)training period.respectively.lt indicated that there were no significant difference in the percentage of both CD4+ and CD8+ between before and after training period. But they decreased signally after tournament.2. CD4+/CD8+ ratio did not change evidently and was lower than the minimum of clinically normal range (1.5) during the period of observation.Training and competition did not worsen immunological status, which has already unbalanced, further.But their susceptibility was higher during the period of observation.3. The percentage of NK cell was higher after tournament than that before and after training period both with significance (P less than 0.05).The function of NK cell...
