This paper is to study the phonological acquisition of a second language by adult learners, that is, one's taking-in and internalization of phonological knowledge, including the phonemic, phonotactic, and phonological rules' knowledge, of an L2. By discussing her own experience in second language acquisition in previous years, the author tries to figure out some of the regularities in the perception and internalization of phonemic knowledge by L2 learners. Chapter Three studies in brief the acquisition of phonotactic and phonological rules in an L2. To reinforce practical sense of this paper, the author uses Chapter Four to discuss about phonological instruction in College English course. Chapter Five is the conclusive part.Besides theoretical induction and examples' analyses, the pedagogic study is expected to supply first-hand data to readers with an interest in second language learning or teaching.
