People's interests in second language acquisition are becoming more and more intensified for the existing problems in the present foreign language teaching. Along with the shift of focus from the research on how to teach to how to learn in the field of foreign language teaching many studies have been undertaken from the students' perspective. There are many factors influencing the process of foreign language learning, among which learning strategies and personality are more of people's concern. The research into learning strategies began in the mid 1970s. One field of the studies approached is the factors influencing strategy employment. These factors are classified into two types: individual learner difference and situational factors. The thesis is aimed at finding out the relationship between learning strategies and personality. I thus design a research on three groups of students chosen randomly from the Changhcun University of Science and Technology, in which questionnaires, interviews and observations are used. An attempt is made in the research to learn the subjects' major personality traits, their strategy choice and the views they hold toward the role of personality and learning strategy in foreign language learning. To be more objective an introduction about the studies on learning strategy is made, which covers conceptions and classifications of learning strategy; comparisons of effective and ineffective learners in strategy employment; and a brief analysis of the factors influencing strategy choice giving light to the relationship between learning strategies and foreign language learning. And some theories and studies on personality are also introduced. On the basis of all these studies and theories, and the detailed analysis of the feedback information of the subjects it is pointed out in this thesis:learners' personality traits do cause differences in their strategy choice; personality and learning strategy as two factors influencing foreign language learning should be taken into consideration in foreign language teaching and foreign language learning, which may greatly facilitate foreign language learning proficiency.
