Study On Antonyms In The Works Of Master Bao Pu

The research on antonyms demand the study of specialized works. The present paper is intended to analyse the antonyms in the Works of Master Bao Pu by Ge Hong.The whole context is organized into 5 sections. I .Introduction:This section gives overview of the basic information about Ge Hong and his the Works of Master Bao Pu;besides, the value of studying the antonyms in this book. II. On Antonyms:Taking all the related theories into consideration,the present section mainly explores the judging principles and statistic methods of antonyms. According to the judging principles and statistic methods of antonyms, there are 338 pairs of antonyms in this book.III. Types of Antonyms:This section classifies the antonyms in the Works of Master Bao Pu from two angles as follow:First, according to the figures of words, there are mainly five types: adjectives, verbs, nouns, adverbs, and prouns. Among them,the adjective antonyms are at the top in quantity.Second, according to the relationship between the conceptions of antonyms, three types are offered :complementary relation ,polarityrelation and opposite relation.IV. Characteristics of Antonyms:The characteristics of antonyms can be summed up into 3 piont : large quantity , complex corresponding relationship, and flexible use.V.Functions of Antonyms:Functions of antonyms in the Works of Master Bao Pu are mainly found in expression and word-building.
