A Summary Of The Art Songs' Creation From The Twenties To Forties Of The 20th Century

This thesis expounds the historical and cultural background of the art songs' production and development in our country. It briefly introduces and analyses the art songs written by some typical musicians from 1920' to 1940's as well as the musician's creation styles.It discusses the creation characteristics and aesthetic tendency of the art songs of that period. The art songs of that period are characterized by the following aspects: a bold national style, taking parts of the ancient and modern poetry as the words of songs, keeping abreast of the current situation, variety in creation styles, emphasizing the accompaniment, and relative single-creation style.The following aesthetic tendencies are characteristic of those art songs: music in harmony with poetry, national innovation, true feeling, being short and pithy.Finally, this thesis touches upon the two enlightenments brought about by the art songs of that period. One is to persist in national innovation, the other is to reflect the life.
