Appearances and features of societies vary from time to time. People's attitudes towards life, value standards and demand for beauty have contributed to pluralism of murals. New claims to form, function and material of murals have been made due to diversities of architectural styles, functions and materials. Therefore, close attentions shown by artists have been paid to distinctive aesthetic features of different materials. Apart from being a language to express for murals, materials draw greater and greater attention to their own. To develop aesthetic features of materials is to develop murals themselves."Material Mural" discussed in the paper means such a type that presents aesthetic elements independently, brings about the effects of images through various combined materials and strives for sense of form and a strong visual impression. Morals attached to traditional murals have been dispelled because of the material aesthetic features-hence a strong interest in physical characteristics.Material acts as a carrier of the material and a means of expression which is regarded as the very primary function performed by material. This nature originates from two aspects: one, as objective realities, materials own some fixed properties; the other, the nature of materials is produced by human feelings. With the advancement in processing technology, new materials have stepped up the development of murals. Exploitation of aesthetic feeling has further developed thoughts. Great interest has been taken in the beauty of traditional material; however, that in the depth has been ignored. When material taking as an independent aesthetic medium emerges, it has become the principal part of expressioa In addition, physical and spiritual features of materials have been involved in creation with perfect development of aesthetic function. Further, material has been a supplement to traditional thoughts, providing new experience for murals.Material has been transferred from a mere carrier of content to both the carrier and the principal part, so that murals are vastly different from what they were. Laying emphasis on mural design is also considered an important thought, which requires that a designer should be rally aware of materials, and that he should have an ability to find the beauty of material, and make full use of material and integrate imagination with material Material means language when all narrations displayed in a mural have been ignored.
