Connectionism is a newly developed theory using the artificial neural network to explain human beings' cognitive ability. Researchers have built up many connectionist models concerning differentfields to overcome problems. This dissertation introduced connectionism in detail, including its components, features, etc. Then, it formulated a hypothetical connectionist model of second language vocabulary acquisition (taking the English word "see" for example). Moreover, it explored the implications of connectionism in second language (vocabulary) teaching and learning. It is believed that different teaching methods should be combined scientifically in the classroom so as to achieve the best effect of teaching.
