Abstract Research On The Types Of Humor Language And Application

Humor, an English vocabulary, has become a household word. It is the essence of language-idea, knowledge, wisdom and inspiration. It provides the audience with special entertainment in its unique performance."Humorous language appears when a writer, in order to cater to the situation, changes or innovates the element of language, such as phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, wording, structure, figure of speech". In my opinion, the study of humorous language is a comprehensive one.On the one hand, as one of the most ancient ideograms, the coordination and arrangement as well as expression and interpretation of Chinese characters are subject not only to the systematic rules of the language itself but also to the general custom that the speaker faces. Humor expressed by linguistic method is unalienable to the inherent principles of the language itself. Humor is subject to the linguistic context. One of the important methodologies of pragmatics is to study a specific expression in a specific context so as to examine the rules of using a language in a social context. As a guideline, co-operative principle, one of the fundamental theories of pragmatics, helps to examine the fundamental principles of pragmatics and humor.On the other hand, this thesis not only discusses the mechanism of humor in the semantics, context, pragmatics and phonetics, but illustrates the figure of speech, analogy, irony and hyperbole in a humorous language as well.Finally, this thesis analyzes humorous language in terms of logics. Humor, as the vocabulary of human wisdom, comes from smart thinking, reasonable deduction and imaginative association. However, this kind of reasoning and deduction differs from scientific ones. A humorist thinks in a different logic, expressing his ideas in an innovative way. Humor employs the comic means of talking about serious issues in a humorous way, unveils the ridiculous pretence and suggests the nature of thingsThe audience are both enlightened and amused by "decoding".To sum up, this thesis undertakes to illustrate the humorous language in terms of semantics, pragmatics, context, phonetics, figure of speech, logics, so as to examine the mechanism of humorous language and to further the understanding and appreciation of humor.
