Women painting, as a part of an artistic category, is different from men's in that it depicts women's lives and their spiritual status from women's perspective. Maternal love, with a sense of fluidness of maternity, can be discerned in numerous works by women painters around the worlds. Their themes, revealed unconsciously from their works, extend from theetemal maternal love through to concerns about all lives in the universe. Wherever the partners are from, east or west, or whether their themes are about childbearing, motherly love or female images, maternity is always the core element of their mind. The hidden maternal consciousness in women paintings includes gestation, procreation, maternal love, sacrifice, admission, inclusion among other elements; hence exhibit a tragic power typical of women. It was through this consciousness that women came to realize the uniqueness of their own sex, their own value and their awakening creativity. This thesis analyses, from various aspects, the magnum opus of a few women painters, and on this basis discusses the roles of creative conception and images-shaping in modeling maternal consciousness through . the following 5 steps: introduction; maternal procreation worship in primitive art; the inevitable revelation of "maternal consciousness" in women painting; aesthetic factors in maternal consciousness; creation of maternal consciousness in women painting; and conclusion.Maternity is the greatest nature a woman ever inherits from her mother. This thesis probes the aesthetic connotation of "maternal consciousness" in women paintings, and tries to explain two points: 1. The maternal consciousness embodied in women painters' works involves not only the "mother-child" tie, but also a strong spiritual force in a broader sense ?a love for life, a love for the creation of life, their spiritual sensation and the tragic loftiness in their procreation, sacrifice, admission, and inclusion, which have been imbued with the blood of modernness. 2. Women painters' maternal consciousness, in nature, is also a means for them to voluntarily express their emotional experiences, which are always uniquely personal and sex-conscious, as well as a recognition of their own value and loveliness.
