Yan Xishan changed the policy of "pre-Japan" into "pre-America" after Japan was defeated in the Second World War and he came back to Taiyuan in August 1945, and the policy was stopped after the liberation of Taiyuan in April 1949. The thesis observes and probes into the relations between Yan Xishan and America with the help of journals at the time, then, has a comment on the relations.The thesis includes three parts: foreword, main body of the thesis, and concluding remarks.Foreword makes a review of the study on the relations between Yan Xishan and foreign countries in academic circles, and points out the academic significance of the thesis.Main body of the thesis divides into four parts. First, the thesis expounds the start of the relations between Yan Xishan and America: the phase of trial engagement. Yan Xishan associated with America by three channels of locality, nation, and the folk. But what he had done was off and on, and had not system. Second, the thesis expounds the development of the relations between Yan Xishan and America: the phase of overall engagement. The development mainly showed in the engagement of economy, politics, and-culture. Third, the thesis expounds the relations between Yan Xishan and America during the period of the liberation of Taiyuan. Because of the demand of the situation, the relations between Yan Xishan and America centered in something about military affairs. Forth, the thesis makes an orientation to the relations between Yan Xishan and America, and has a further analysis of the orientation. YanXishan gamed a lot in particular things by associating with America, but he did not achieve the desired results.Concluding remarks make a summation of the thesis.
