Critical Review On Mencius' Reception Ideology

The Reception Aesthetics has blazed an open thoughtway in many fields of academy. It is extremely useful to adopt Reception Aesthetics to investigate Chinese traditional thought to widen our learning view, refresh the learning conception, and accelerate the learning development. In recent years, Researches on the Comparative Literature are getting prosperous. And there are so many specialists and scholars using western theory of literature to explain Chinese traditional theories of literature. They have not only acquired great achievements, but also broken a new path for the investigation of Chinese traditional thoughts. But what we can not ignore is that each coin has its two sides. With the numerous achievements, there are also some serious problems. For instance, a lot of scholars who accepted the western theory totally only to use its concept and principle to contrast our own theories. Therefore, they can not revert to our own conditional culture type and can not construct Chinese own phylum in its nature.In view of this embarrassment, the present paper proposes on the basis of Coufucian Canons and uses modem Reception Aesthetics to dig into such three aspects as Mencius' theory, Mencius' reception practiceN theory and the subsequent scholars' recetpion. According to the Chinese culture, this paper compares the Chinese Reception Aesthetics to thewestern Reception Aesthetics in an equal and effective situation. The significance of this Paper lies in that it has made Mencius' Reception Theory clear and indicated its important influence in the whole Chinese Reception Theory.
