A Study On The Development Of Special Mountain Products Of Sichuan In Modern Times

The study of the agricultural geography of Sichuan in the Late-Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China is not paid adequate attention to in the academic circle . Basted on the conditions of Sichuan province, the thesis studies the Special Mountain Products as the starting-piont, to which the academic circle scarcely paid attention, the author tries to demonstrate truthfully the survey of the development of the mountain areas under the influence of economic development in modern times. It is pointed out that Sichuan is the primary areas for producting Special Mountain Products in China. And the economy based on the Special Mountain Products enjoyed a very significant position in the economy of Sichuan in modern times. The author especially points out that the development of Special Mountain Products not only has the effects on the change of agricultural structure, but also on the life of the peasants in Sichuan. Finally the thesis points out the lessons we have learned in this aspect and actual inspirations in the development of Special Mountain Products.The thesis consists of three parts: preface, main body and conclusion.In the preface, the author explains the concept of Special Mountain Products, which means special forest products circulated in the market, including economic forest resources and wildlife. And the author explains the reasons for studying the topic in terms of the academic value and the practical significance.In the main body, two topics are expounded.In the first section, the author gives a general introduction of Special Mountain Products in Sichuan, including the producing areas and market distributions. On the basis of reviewing the development of the Special Mountain Products of Sichuan in the history, The thesis expounds the development features of the Special Mountain Products in Sichuan, dividing the development process into three stages. The thesis also analyses the major problem in the development of the Special Mountain Products, which lies in the lowcommodity rate. For this, there are various negative factors, both subjective and objective.In the second section, the author emphasizes the important position of the Special Mountain Products in Sichuan economy and the effect of the developments of the Special Mountain Products on socioeconomic development. The thesis holds that the economy of Sichuan in modern times was that of Special Mountain Products, and the Special Mountain Products plays an important pole in the economy of modern Sichuan. The development of Special Mountain Products not only has effects on the change of agricultural structure ,but also on the life of the peasants in Sichuan. The thesis points out that the development of Special Mountain Products comes to a peak in the Late-Qing Dynasty and the early-Republic of China. During the periods the agricultural structure is optimal, and the life of the peasants is comfortable in Sichuan. But in the later-Republic of China, people keep reclaiming and cultivating wasteland and this breaks away from the conditions of Sichuan province, which leads to the decline in the developments of the Special Mountain Products and the deteriorating of ecological environment. The development of the Special Mountain Products has a negative effect on the environment. Therefore we should deal with the relationships rationally between the development and conservation in the development of the Special Mountain Products.Finally, the author suggests, in order to eliminate poverty in the mountain areas ,the best way is to regulate the agricultural structure in Sichuan, and place the development of Special Mountain Products economy in Sichuan agricultural economy in the first place; In the light of local conditions, dealing with the relationship between economic forest and ecologic forest properly is the key factor in attaining sustainable development in mountain area.
