The article try to explore the self-portrait of artist, one of the pecial art-forms of portrait-paintings. Then using the specific cases of Chinese artists and their background of times, analyzing the special function of self-portrait today, which is the way the artists talk to theoutside circumstance, and join social criticisms. At last analyzing synthetically self-portrait is an art-form full of vitality and special charm from such aspects as the content, the form and the intention of it, emphasizing the human-centered characeristic of self-portrait,which reflects its love in human community and human society.In the last part ,the article using the cases of teaching of Mr.Xu beihong, point out the use of self-portrait today, and emphasizing the application and importance of self-portrait in art creation.By analyzing self-portrait from two aspects of verticlal view and horizontal view, getting the conclusion: self-portrait is the crystal of the love of artist in life and the love of artist in art, and it is "the Third Eye" of artist in loving himself and the humanity.
