This thesis probes into test method effect on listening performance in terms of task types through comparing listening comprehension tests of NMET and NMET2 on the ground of the correlation between listening comprehension and reading comprehension. The correlation is studied with adopting a latent variable approach, or LISREL, based on data from NMET 2003 and NMET2 2003. Two two-factor models are set up on the basis of the fact that listening ability and reading ability are closely related but separable. The statistics results of the study suggest that the change of task types has an effect on listening performance. In the present study there are also findings pointing out that different task types have different effects on listening performance.
