The paper tries to analyze the writing personality and creation psychology in Shen Cong-wen's novels about urban and rural life with Freud's theory on dream and personality. In real life he was moderate and thoughtful while he was stubborn and irrational in the course of writing, which made him gain the valuable writing character. His stubborn personality hi creation reflected his unbalanced psychology and was just his dominant writing feature and created Shen Cong-wen and the XiangXi world as fairyland. The concept of his 'country folk' was not the one in the patriarchal clan system built in the system of enfeoffment of Chine with the moral principles of Confucian School, but was a kind of primitive civilization. It contains two aspects of content. One is the uncivilized life that is mainly carried by the imagery of XiangXi sailors and another is the free sexual love that is expressed with the XiangXi women in his novels as Cui-cui, even the imagery of XiangXi prostitutes. The creation of his country novels was the result of the stagnating in his personality in childhood. After confronting animated setback his personality occurred backing, which determined his writing style. His novels about urban life were not meant to create an urban world as great as XiangXi world in his local fictions, nor to express personal dissatisfaction with the society, but to misrepresenthis desire-to seek for an ideal life style under the guise of dream. The stubbornand irrational thinking-pattern in his urban novels was similar with this in dream. This is the reason that Shen Cong-wen was grateful for all the city dwellers as professors did for him in real life, while defamed them in his novels.
