On The Western Realism Art Of Twentieth Century

Content: In the history of Western Art, the tradition of realism can be dated back to the Classical Art of Ancient Greece. Scanning the Western traditional art, the using of realism means has always been the major means of artistic expression. But it varies from era to era in understanding the definition of the realism. The cultural progress and the changing of viewing method all make the understanding of the realism different from eras. Especially influenced by the 20th century trend of thought in modernism, the realism is quite different from traditional realism art. This paper tries to begin with the source of classical art of Ancient Greece, and then analyze the developmental course of realism to explore the esthetic source of 20th century realism art.
