A Brief Discussion On Textural Effects Produced In Oil Paintings

The expansion and transformation in mediums and materials in the language of oil painting, has brought about the phenomenon of a growing awareness regarding the use of texture within oil painting. Due to the fact artists are always striving, and exploring the possibilities of new types of medium with regard to the textural effect and its understanding and appreciation, in many aspects and on many levels, the many concepts of free experimentation and the possibilities in use of medium cause the emergence of new textural effects. Texture, as one of the constituent parts of the form of a painting, uses its rich artistic expressive power to take on an important role in the painting. To add to this, it has unlimited developmental space and potential in terms of the paintings expressive form. This commands our attention in the research and use of texture.The use of textural effect is in fulfilling the aesthetic requirements of the viewer, to create an emotional response, producing a mood and thereby fulfilling the viewer's internal need. Therefore there is an organic blendingof texture's appreciated form and its emotional mood. Promoting the deep level values of texture is in fact the reason we research texture.
