Interpretation Of Anaphoric Binding Of PRO

This paper is intended to investigate into the properties of anaphoric binding of PRO, which is one type of empty categories. The former part of this paper is focused on the diachronic research on PRO: from anaphoric features of NP phrases to Binding Theory; from anaphoric binding properties of null subject PRO to Control Theory. In the meantime, the paper introduces different views on Control Theory from different schools, in which a series of topics, such as, the definition, the classification and the distribution of PRO, as well as its anaphoric binding features, are discussed. In terms of the studies on PRO in Chinese, a new hypothesis on the redefinition of PRO is proposed in this paper, as the studies on PRO in Chinese is more or less a copy from that in English. With reference to Fractal Theory, which holds that fractals have self-similar entities, and there is no exception with language. Small clause is the self-similar entity in sentence, on which the research of PRO in Chinese is founded. And on the basis of classical studies, a general analysis on the properties of anaphoric binding of PRO in Chinese has been done.
