Xin Qiji ,a true hero, was created during the harsh time of the Song Dynasty, when the nation was in great danger of perdition. There is thick utilitarianism colour in his thought due to his ego and enterprising personality. His utilitarian tendency is mainly embodied in his more attention to the motives than to the means. He believed that whether the motives were right or not depended on the results. Thus, he was ambitious in politics and he had strong desire for reputation and to make contributions, which provided the motivity for the sublimation for his inherent nationalism complex. But his dreams didn't come true as a result of the limitation of both the subjective and objective conditions . This led to his heroic pathos: the love for the nation and the sympathy with the common people: the worry about himself and his reputation; the sadness of having no chance to show his ability and the hatred to the lord for not offering him a chance; the sadness of the lapse of life. It was just his heroic pathos reflected in his works that helped to form his own style. Also his heroic career, great contribution and his great achievement in poetry has the profound influence on the subsequent literary works. The main body is divided into three parts:(1).the cognition to Xin Qiji's utilitarianism thought. In this part, his utilitarianism, teleology and the transform of utilitarianism are mainly analyzed. (2).the cognition to his nationalism. Two aspects of his nationalism pathos are analyzed, national vengeance and will of national unity. (3).His pathos are analyzed , including the cause , the connotation and the experience of such pathos. The summary: Xin Qiji is a man of a time. The conflict between the subject and object make him engender various ideas and emotions. Therefore, he is actually a hero of utilitarianism, a hero of nationalism as well as a hero of pathos. Meanwhile, the self-inhibition caused by the failure of chasing dreams forms the particular characteristics of pathos in his poetry which attracts us chronically.
