With the Internet becoming a highly important communication tool, language used in the Internet communication has developed its own features and become a unique language variety. This thesis, within the framework of Crystal's taxonomy, attempts to analyze the Internet English Variety (IEV) in terms of its origin, functions and features. In view of the increasing number of high school netizens or the Internet users who are at the prime time for learning English, more and more researchers have paid their attention to how to help these high school students to learn English via the Internet and cultivate a proper attitude toward change and evolvement of English for the purpose of improving their level of English and communicative proficiency.Approaches to the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) have always been the highlight of second language teaching and research. Having appeared in the 1990s, CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) takes advantage of the Internet in language teaching. However, this is tried mostly among university students in China. In the 21st century, foreign language teaching is facing new challenges, on which many researchers and scholars have made new assumptions with a number of experiments being made to test these assumptions. Lexical approach, which was proposed by Lewis, stresses lexical treatment of language teaching and suggests the Observation-Hypothesis-Experiment paradigm. This project, based on the rules of this approach, has conducted a spirited research and experiment in one Chinese high school by applying the research results of IEV into English teaching and achieved some preliminary, detailed data and valuable experience. The result shows that IEV application to SFL is feasible and practical among high school students in China, and is also of great significance for English teaching.
